GETTING VALUE FROM IDLE ASSETS THROUGH AUCTION SALE
Idle assets do not only depreciate in value, but also burden the cash flow statements of governments, businesses and households.
In Nigeria, the value of idle assets in the real estate and agricultural sectors are estimated to be worth $900 billion by the American consulting firm, Price Waterhouse Coopers; aside underused assets owned by corporations and private individuals.
The good news is that the market gains of these underutilized assets (sold at auction or privatised) can generate funds for job creation, company capital, satiating household necessities, and removing people from poverty.
According to market data from live auctions of household and corporates as at July 2022, idle asset (2009 Nigerian-used Toyota Highlander) was sold for 818% more than its Book Value.
Governments, businesses, and private individuals must begin assigning a value to their idle assets in order to recognize the economic value and value additions of these assets.
If you have assets that are not in use, please speak to #valuers/#auctioneers in order to realise its alternative value additions through auction.
